We always new that our souls were old,
That we should have been from different times,
When we lied by the fire, her hand in my hold,
We watched the classics and mouthed the lines,
So Hepburn, Bogart, And Jimmy Dean,
Filled talk of love, on our televison screens,
As we used to say how romance was dead,
How the world should be in black and white,
Just like the photos I saw, that she hung by her bed,
When as in the movies, I kissed her goodnight,
The world was exciting when it was at war,
When being close to death just made you live more,
When shadows would wait at stations, immaculately dressed,
When rain drenched trains took away young star-crossed lovers,
Times when men could be men, but love still obssesed,
Days when cameras didnt go beneath the covers,
So if in years to come, if you should ever feel regret,
About that lonesome boy you left behind, that fading silloutte,
That you said you would not forget, and never really did,
Never worry, it was for the best.

I see your beauty in the semi-darkness. You ask me to turn the light on. I falter.
